Authorities stated they were contacted by a resident who noticed a automobile in Hanau smeared with reddish substance

Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.

Law enforcement say they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.

The substance had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then discovered numerous other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement say initial examinations show the substance was probably human blood.

"Currently there is no clue as to its source; investigators are presently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.

Local authorities announced they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the public for information.

An important political figure said the incident rendered him without words and had to be addressed quickly.

"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in 2020.
