Diving into an Unusual Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and gamers have discovered numerous entertaining creations from small studios. Yet, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure lets you play a character that is truly a piece of poop striving to navigate to a commode. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
The gameplay is straightforward: just use a single jump button. Across numerous stages, you'll face tough enemies and access a store to buy skins for your fecal avatar.
Execute your jumps precisely, as a wrong move forces beginning again. Jump on floating orbs to hurl the poop to new heights, cross disappearing ledges, and touch buttons to unlock new areas. Earn currency for buying tougher levels where the action intensifies.
Visually, the experience shows off neon stages and a killer background music. The simple visual style with moving abstract forms could recall gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.
Although hard to think of previous releases where you control a coiled turd, video games have long incorporated scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can make explosives from character droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ dung as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, such content is present a lot in the adventure The Stick of Truth.
Despite its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already received impressive awards, like taking top honors at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. A playable preview is ready currently on Steam, with the final release planned to launch on PC on November 19.
