Operations Recommence at Scotland's Busiest Airport After Substantial Air Traffic Control Outage
Flight operations have restarted at Edinburgh Airport after a substantial air traffic control outage grounded all flights.
All incoming and outgoing flights were halted after an technical fault that was reported at approximately 08:30.
Some passengers reported being stuck in aircraft on the tarmac during the disruption.
Operations Restart with Continued Disruption
The airport confirmed at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".
Nonetheless, ongoing issues are expected to persist for some time. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with a host of additional flights facing hold-ups.
A spokesperson had previously estimated that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.
"Passengers are advised to get in touch with their carrier for the most up-to-date details on their specific flights," officials reiterated.
Root of the Disruption
The airport attributed the operational halt to an technical fault with its ATC service provider.
Flyers should still plan to verify the schedule of their trip before departing to the airport as knock-on effects are cleared.
