Reports indicate that beloved stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.

A Major Reunion for Fans

The duo are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Speculation suggests their appearance will probably be featured in a flash-forward sequence, as the main film series concluded with their characters married and with children.

This signifies the sixth film in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.

The Source Material

Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a newly published work by series creator Suzanne Collins. It acts as the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Returning to the director's chair is Francis Lawrence, who was behind nearly all the previous films in the series.

The Storyline and Fresh Faces

The film's events are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.

The cast also includes several accomplished actors in key parts:

• Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the menacing President Snow.

What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule

Separately, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson stars in the sequel to the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
